2025 Denny & Jerry Davidoff Sermon Award:

Unitarian Universalists for Jewish Awareness (UUJA) is seeking entries for the Denny & Jerry Davidoff Sermon Award, which offers a cash prize of $500 for the best sermon on Jewish identity or Jewish themes.

The award is named in honor of the late Denny & Jerry Davidoff,  early members of this group, who were instrumental in helping lift up the often overlooked Jewish presence in our religious movement. UUJA offers resources to those interested in Jewish issues, celebrations and heritage, either personally or on behalf of congregations.

Submission Requirements:

The sermon must be on the topic of Judaism and have been preached between January 2024- April 2025. As this sermon will be read by the panel of judges, it must contain more than notes or an outline and should be no longer than 3,000 words. Submissions will preferably be grounded in a Unitarian Universalist context and should have any identifying language within it removed (ie: references to the congregation’s name, names of individuals within the congregation, informal introductions to inside operations in your context, etc). Finally, the winner must be willing to preach their sermon at a UUJA hosted-event in 2025.

Please send all submissions via e-mail in Word or RTF document formats to UUJA Board member Arthur Thexton at athexton@hotmail.com before May 1, 2025

Winner will be announced concurrent with the 2025 UU General Assembly.
